Compliments
Nicolas says that the reactions were very positive, "Visitors reacted with interest. Many people did not realize how long it takes to create a new variety. They really enjoyed seeing it. We also received compliments about the organization and I want to pass these compliments on to our entire team. I am very pleased with how it all went. It was a wonderful opportunity to let the people behind the scenes come out."
BelOrta and Haspengouw
There were two auctions present at Better3fruit that day, "BelOrta had a booth where a cook was preparing various snacks with new vegetables. In addition, Haspengouw Auction presented the new Kanzi harvest. First, visitors had the chance to take a nice walk and then they could enjoy a healthy, tasty snack."
Trying the different varieties
In between the walk and snacks there was also time to taste the apples, "We presented the commercial varieties Greenstar, Kanzi, Zari and Asfari. The Asfari is a fairly new variety and not yet well known here. It is a yellow apple that can be harvested between August 15-20, and right now the variety is only commercial in England. Many sellers are still hesitant about planting this apple because yellow apples are generally harder to sell. Visitors were disappointed in the news because the apple is so delicious. Retailers do not yet want to take the risk, but that may change in the future."
A large part of the Better3Fruit team
This month we will publish a special article in our magazine, Primeur, about Better3Fruit with pictures of the new apple varieties.
