Ailimpo outlines situation of citrus sector in Valencia

Last Friday, a meeting was held between AILIMPO and the regional secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Council of Valencia, Francisco Rodríguez Mulero. The main reason for the meeting was the official presentation to the Council of the new president of the Interprofessional, Domingo Arce Segura, who outlined the situation of the sector, both in general and specifically in Valencia.

Rodriguez Mulero positively assessed how, for the first time, the president of this organization based in Murcia, which promotes the production and marketing of fresh lemons and grapefruit, comes from Valencia, as this gives an idea of the importance of this crop in Alicante.

AILIMPO is also satisfied about this first contact, will lay the foundations for mutual cooperation between the Valencian administration and the Interprofessional in priority areas for the lemon and grapefruit sector, such as improving the methods to gather statistics for a better understanding of the productive reality, a development of incentive mechanisms to boost the widespread use of standard contracts approved by the Interprofessional, the control of pests from third countries or the development of research projects in the IVIA.

Ailimpo is an interprofessional organisation at national level, based in Murcia, officially recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture and the European Commission, which represents the economic interests of producers, cooperatives, exporters and processors of lemon and grapefruit in Spain; a sector that generates 620 million Euro per year.

Some of its tasks include ensuring the proper functioning of the food chain, preparing standard agro-food contracts and develop methods to control and rationalise the use of plant protection products to ensure product quality and environmental protection, as well as the promotion of quality standards and excellence in the sector.
