"Caparros: "Planned fusion serves reduction of work places"
“The cat is finally out of the bag with this agreement. It is now in black and white that, with ministerial approval, 16,000 work places will not be maintained, as we had been led to believe. We are talking about massive job cuts and the destruction of Kaiser's Tengelmann by Edeka. This has yet to be made palatable for the affected employees through settlements. And the job cuts are in part to be funded by the state through a transfer company. With these company agreements to cut jobs, those responsible have forsaken their request for ministerial approval on any basis.
Furthermore, this arrangement is merely the latest sleight of hand in the zig-zag course of Kaiser's Tengelmann and Edeka. First they spoke of maintaining 16,000 work places, then suddenly it was only 8,000 work places, and now the plan for cutting jobs has even been set out in writing. Understandably, this unsettles Kaiser's Tengelmann's employees. Security for the future looks different at any rate. The REWE group on the other hand has declared in the summer of 2014 that they would fully take over Kaiser's Tengelmann. In this, we have extensively and unmistakably taken measures to secure all work places and to maintain all employee's rights. I fully support these statements up to this very day.
Mr. Haub has dismissed the latter as “dubious”. It is clear with the current agreements at whom the accusation of dubiousness should really be aimed.”
