Veiling Hoogstraten hits new record with strawberries

The summer temperatures are literally bearing fruit; Veiling Hoogstraten has just sold the most strawberries ever in the history of their company. On the morning of July 6th, 501,948 kilos of strawberries were for sale. The previous record, which was reached on May 26, 2014, stood at 385,000 kg.

Extremely hot
"The strawberries were harvested last weekend in the extremely hot weather, a difficult task, to say the least. The average price for the strawberries was around 1.40 Euro per kilo. In particular, the price for smaller strawberries fell due to the increased supply. The larger strawberries received good prices for this time of the year," says Jan Engelen.

"Since next week's weather forecast is more moderate, supply could be significantly lower. We will have to wait and see what the weather gods have in store for us," says Jan.
