Chantler Packaging celebrating 85th year anniversary

Elevating packaging industry

Chantler Packaging Inc., a leader in flexible packaging and engineered solutions for national and international food products, is announcing that this year marks the 85th year anniversary for their business.

The company started as Chantler and Chantler in 1930, by two brothers who sold some of the first injection moulding machinery imported to North America. The company extended to flexible packaging in the 1960s for industrial, agricultural, and floral packaging. Today, from Mississauga, Chantler Packaging’s innovative solutions are used to package and ship food for buyers, distributers and grocery retail chain throughout Canada, USA, Mexico, and Spain.

“We have built some tremendous relationships with our partners in the food industry over the years,” said Grant Ferguson, Chantler Packaging’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “There are a variety of customers out there with different needs and we enjoy solving them”.

The food packaging developer defines its brand with innovation, strategy and engineered solutions to address concerns about food waste and carbon footprints. Throughout the years, the company has developed PrimePro®, a modified atmospheric packaging which absorbs ethylene gas that allows produce appearing in top quality for shelf-life extension. Furthermore, the EnduroPouch™ was developed as a package with strong handles using minimal materials.

As the organization celebrates this milestone, CBC News reports on a recent Value Chain Management International study that illustrates food waste cost has increased 15% since 2010, the time of the last study. Contributors to this issue include food manufacturers (up to 20%), retailers (10%), processing facilities and transportation. This is an issue that Chantler Packaging takes seriously when creating packaging solutions.

“Low packaging costs cannot simply be the only concern for stakeholders,” explains Ferguson. “Decreasing food waste and lowering carbon footprints are significant factors that save food, the environment, and overall costs in the long run.”

Chantler Packaging perpetually thinks forward to improve packaging regarding versatility, processing speeds, environment, and ultimately lower costs. This is evident in the company’s packaging strategy and research division, Brandcheck, which offers insights on social culture and packaging trends, including topics in fresh produce consumption, food wastage, and augmented reality.

Today, the company remains a family run business with Roy Ferguson serving as CEO. After 85 years, the company continues to use industry insights and expert engineering to develop food packaging solutions.
