Italy: SIPO conquers Northern Europe with new ranges

Sipo's participation at Fruit Logistica 2015 officially inaugurated the company's international phase thanks to new contacts in Scandinavia, UK and Germany.

"These countries are very interested in Italian products, our culinary tradition and organic produce, so they are perfect for us," explains export coordinator Nicolò Bentivegni (in the above photo).

"It is still too early to make an assessment, but the first negotiations and shipments went well. Now we have to continue the work we started with the main retailers in Scandinavia, UK, Austria, Germany and Persian Gulf countries."

"There is a lot of competition in the fresh produce sector, also due to the low consumption rates. That is why more and more companies are turning towards the foreign market, with the risk of driving prices down. Sipo works with niche products which are difficult for competitors to attack."

Minestrone soups are in fact an 'evolved' packed unwashed product that provide consumers with a recipe (Light, Energy, Detox and Baby) in addition to the mere product.

The same goes for aromatic herbs, as the packets come with suggestions of use. The "Red meat" packet is made up of rosemary, sage, parsley and garlic, whereas the "White meat" one contains marjoram, sage, thyme and garlic and the "Raw fish" one is a mix of wild fennel, marjoram, parsley and garlic. There are also other mixes for Raw meat, Seafood salad and Fish baked in foil.

"These products are popular with consumers looking for healthy natural food, who like Italian recipes and have a rather high income. Logistics is therefore essential, as delivery to distribution centres must be carried out within 48 hours so the produce can reach clients within 72 hours. That is why we work with cold chain professionals."

Bentivegni also took part in Road Show Macfrut in Czech Republic, where he established contacts with a few important distributors. "For next year's Macfrut, we invited a few foreign delegations to Rimini for a tour of our facilities and we will also take part in Fruit Logistica 2016."
