First South African summer citrus in US

The first 2015 shipments of South African Summer Citrus to the U.S is expected to arrive today.

U.S. Congress voted to extend the Africa Growth & Opportunity Act (AGOA). President Obama is expected to extend the international treaty before the end of September.

Among the most successful agricultural programs of AGOA, South African Summer Citrus exports +/- 42,000 tons of easy peelers (clementines), Navel oranges, and Star Ruby Grapefruit to the U.S. from June through October, when domestically grown citrus is less available. The majority enters the U.S. through the Port of Philadelphia & employs thousands of workers here and in South Africa.
