Spain’s seeks to boost exports by benchmarking Chile

"We had a meeting in which we were presented with a strategic plan that is being carried out for the fruit sector of Extremadura, which includes a benchmarking trip to Chile because they want to boost their exports, and, in order to do so, they took Chile and Italy as role models, which is very positive because it means that they see us as a leader to follow in this regard," said a spokesman from Asoex.

The meeting took place at the office of ASOEX in Spain and was attended by Lorena Sepulveda, representative of ProChile in Spain; Charif Cristian Carvajal, Marketing Manager of ASOEX for Europe and Asia; Fernando Fernandez, from Extremadura Avante; Atanasio Naranjo Hidalgo, president of Afruex, and Miguel Angel Gomez, general manager of Afruex.

There was a complete presentation of the Chilean fruit export sector during the meeting and the participants began working on coordinating the group's visit agenda, scheduled for July.

Afruex
Extremadura’s Fruit Growers Association (Afruex) is a professional group which brings together 90% of the growers from the region of Extremadura. It has 70 direct partners that bring together a group of more than 1,000 producers of fresh fruit.

The goal of Afruex is to organize and develop Extremadura’s fruit sector and boost the quality of their production while respecting the ecological balance, for which more than 12 cooperatives, 14 OPFH, individual farmers, Agricultural Transformation Societies, and other social forms have joined and created more than 30 Horticultural Centrals.

This union makes Afruex an association that, among its members, has a global production of 300,000 tons of fresh fruit. Among other products, the association produces nectarines, peaches, plums, apples, pears, cherries, quinces, persimmons and nuts.
