Colombian Hass avocados introduced in the range this year

FLP exporting exotic fruits to Europe for almost 30 years

FLP International has been devoted for almost 30 years to the export of exotic fruits to Europe. In 1987, the operation started with flown in exotics from Colombia. Since then the company’s product range and activities expanded to other countries in South America, the name was changed to Freshkita Latin American Perishables (FLP). It operates since 1987 in Colombia, since 1994 in Ecuador and since 2000 in Peru.

Three countries
The export company works with more than 400 farmers and has made more than 20,000 shipments of fresh fruits to its customers, with products being supplied directly by the growers with whom they have built strong, long-term relationships.

David Abuchar, FLP's contact person in Europe explains: "We have a very wide range. Colombia supplies passion fruit and physalis, from Ecuador we do mainly baby bananas, but also several flown in exotics, such as pitahaya, yellow passion fruit, tamarillo and granadilla. From Peru we supply Kent mangoes."

Avocados from Colombia
Hass avocados from Colombia are this year’s new addition to the range. "This is a successful variety in Europe; that is why we have included it in our range. The Colombian avocado season lasts from September to March. This year, we will only deliver for a few weeks at the end of the season and then we’ll start again in September." He points out that the Colombian season takes place during a very nice time of the year. The transit time from Colombia is 12 days, more than a week shorter than the competing suppliers from the Southern Hemisphere."

David states that he has been working in Brussels since last year. "It's the first time we have a contact person in Europe, which is a great advantage for the customers here. This way, anyone can get in touch with us without having to worry about time zones."
