US: Mexican mango import season begins

The season during which Mexican mangos are shipped to the United States began at the end of last month. By the end of January, over 54,000 boxes of fruit were imported from Mexico. The main varieties shipped from Mexico are Tommy Atkins and Ataulfo mangos. The main growing regions are Oaxaca and Chiapas, and shipments are expected to last into June.

Shipments from Peru are expected to last until April. By the end of January, 4.1 million boxes of mangos, mostly Kent, had been shipped from Peru. That's about 3.7 million fewer boxes than had been shipped by the end of January in 2014.

On February 6, prices for a flat of Kent 7s from Peru were between $8.00 and $8.50 at the Philadelphia port of entry and between $7.00 and $8.00 at South Florida ports of entry. At Southern California ports of entry, prices for a flat of Kent 7s from Peru were between $10.00 and $11.00.
