Madagascar’s lychee season ending

The lychee season which began on the 18th November is coming to an end. According to exporter, Faly Rasamimanana, 15,500 tons of lychees have been exported. “We only have 2500 tons left. The most recent container to leave Madagascar went on Sunday, and the final one will go this Sunday, as in the 14 December”. This year export volumes were slightly higher. 500 tons more were exported this year thanks to the Russian market opening to products from Madagascar.

The exporter explains that thanks to sufficient rainfall, the most recent exports are of a better quality. Black outs are a problem for exporters at the moment, “at night we only have five hours of electricity, and sometimes none at all, yet we have to sort at night and pick in the day”.
