American Cancer Society benefits from industry fundraiser

The Original Spring Lamb Barbecue celebrated its 55th anniversary this spring at the Crosetti Ranch nestled in the foothills of Watsonville, CA., presented the proceeds from that event to the local American Cancer Society yesterday.

Over the 55 years of this longstanding event, volunteers from California Giant, the produce industry in the Pajaro Valley, and community at large have been committed to participating in the Spring Lamb BBQ to support the ongoing work from the American Cancer Society.

This annual BBQ tradition began with John Moncovich, the father of Bill Moncovich, CEO and partner in California Giant Berry Farms, along with several friends back in 1959. They donated funds the very first year to the American Cancer Society, and that tradition has held true ever since.

Today Bill’s nephew Nick Chappell, and J.T. Tipton both California Giant employees and Spring Lamb Committee members presented the check for $58,000 on behalf of the committee to Kristin Fabos and Nancy Valdez representing the Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society receives the lion’s share of the proceeds from the Spring Lamb and additional funds are shared with local organizations that supports families battling cancer.
