Healthy eating difficult to combine with working lifestyle

The 'Techniker Krankenkasse', a German health insurance company recently did some research into the eating patterns of working people and it showed that one in three men 36% and one in four women 24% had difficulty in finding healthy food to eat at their place of work, and only one in two workers 48% could eat in peace during their break.

It appears that work life is top of the list of things which prevent a healthy diet. In third place, after lack of time and weak self control, many rate the biggest problem as the limited eating choices at work (say 39%). The solution: four out of ten surveyed indicated that they did not eat much during the day, but eat better food at home in the evening; one in two preferring this.

Wiebke Arps from the Techniker Krankenkasse is convinced, "Sufficient breaks and suitable rooms to be able to sit and eat healthily, pays off for many companies. Sitting day in and day out at the desk with just a quick snack is unsatisfactory and also makes people ill," said the expert in the field of company health management. Employee health is a factor in the continued success for any company - for example in the form of greater motivation and improved employment results. "Given the demographic developments and the lack of skilled workers, it is increasingly important to keep employees motivated and healthy - even for economic reasons," said Arps.
