"It is a new hybrid obtained by crossing Nules clementines (female parent, 2x) and Tarocco oranges (male parent, 4x) and it is the patented result of the research carried out by Giuseppe Reforgiato Recupero, Giuseppe Russo and Santo Recupero for the CRA-ACM of Acireale (Sicily," explains Salvo Laudani.
The taste of Mandared is between that of clementines and Tarocco oranges. They have no seeds, the peel is thin and they are quite big for being an "easy peeling" fruit.
"They ripen medium-late between February and April, so we can increase exports." Oranfrizer exports 10-12% of its blood oranges and 40% of its fruit juices.
