Over thirty entrepreneurs and representatives of Uruguay XXI will take part in Fruit Logistica 2014, which will be held in Berlin, Germany, from February 5 to the 7. The European country is a strategic destination for Uruguay, as it is the country's sixth biggest export destination and the eleventh one in fruit exports.

The production and export of fresh fruit in Uruguay has grown in recent years. In 2012, Uruguay was ranked as one of the fifteen major exporters of blueberries, the third largest exporter of citrus in South America, and part of the top twenty-five citrus exporters in the world. In 2013, the citrus sector's exports totalled $17 million dollars, 12.8% more than in the previous year, which positioned the country in the leading exporters ranking once again.

Last year, Uruguay exported 111,000 tonnes of quality fruit worth $78 million dollars to more than forty countries. 80.3% of the exported fruit were citrus, followed by blueberries, with 17.7% of the total, and apples and pears, which accounted for 1.1% of exports. Last year, exports to Germany amounted to $363 million, 19.9% more than in 2012.

According to data supplied by the organization of Fruit Logistica, approximately 58,000 people visited the fair's 2013 edition, 45,000 of which were foreigners, from more than 130 countries. This data reflects the importance and potential benefits that Fruit Logistica offers for companies in the sector.

This year, Uruguay will participate with a 60 square meter country stand strategically located within Hall 25 of Latin America. The country's goal is to further enhance its presence in the European and world market. This is the sixth consecutive time that Uruguay participates in Fruit Logistica. The results of the previous participation were very positive as great business opportunities were achieved. According to Uruguay XXI, there were returns of $178 dollars in exports for each dollar that was invested in the fair.
