Fruit Logistica 2014, Hall 2.2 - Stand A-02

Italy: Apofruit speeds up thanks to exports and branded products

"The Apofruit group closed in 2013 with -8% in volume and +5% in value. Turnover reached €223 million, whereas the value of production should be of around €254 million," says Ilenio Bastoni, sales manager.

"In detail, Mediterraneo Group recorded +2% in volume and +12% in turnover thanks to new partners, which meant the range could be widened."

The Apofruit Italia cooperative recorder -12% in volume and +1% in turnover, with exports representing over 40% of the total. "It must be highlighted that Solemio did really well in the Far East, achieving +30% in the first part of the season."

"This data is really positive, especially in a year where economy was not very good. It means we can reach our objectives for 2014, i.e. developing exports and high-quality production through our Solarelli brand."

Ernesto Fornari, director of Canova, an organic company, said 2013 was "a year to remember" thanks to a turnover of €58.15 million (+8.2%), made thanks to the Almaverde Bio brand, and a +35% achieved on the foreign market.

"The great result is due to the fact that we are available on almost all channels, from retailers, to specialised stores, to H&R," explains Fornari.

"The development of direct shipments from the various organic plants and supplier platforms means we are more competitive and efficient and can guarantee a longer shelf-life with the same high-quality level."

Innovation is really important for the organic sector, and in fact Almaverde Bio includes seedless grapes, sub-acidic and coloured peaches and nectarines, bright red persimmons, French apricots and red apples as well as green kiwis, available the whole year round, in its range.

"In Europe, Canova France and Canova Spain have the permission to complete the range with local produce and improve logistics. The same happened with ViviToscano in Italy. All in all, the total turnover of 2013 was €70 million, which puts us among the first in Europe as organic producers and suppliers," concludes Fornari.

Representatives from all sectors of the Group - sales, technical, marketing and operative office - will attend Fruit Logistica in Piazza Italia, the collective stand of the CSO-Centro servizi ortofruitticoli di Ferrara, Hall 2.2 - Stand A-02.
