Uzbekistan has received the first batch of elite seed potatoes imported from the Netherlands to boost domestic production. The total volume of imports will reach 6,000 tons.
The purchase is based on a presidential decree issued, which mandates the import of certified high-quality seeds from leading international suppliers for the 2026 planting season. The initiative aims to raise yields, improve seed quality, and reduce the country's reliance on imported table potatoes.
The supply contract was concluded between Bulungʻur–Agro Star (part of Uzagrostar Holding), Turon Bank, and the Dutch seed potato company Agrico. Under the government programme, the imported seed material is delivered to specialized potato-growing enterprises without additional markups.
The seeds will be distributed at cost price to the farms, commercial farmers, and household growers, and will be used both for spring planting and for a second-crop harvest.
