Known-You Seed has been dedicated to the genetic improvement of fruit and vegetables since 1968. "It was founded by Wun-Yu Chen in Taiwan and, from the very beginning, it has focused on breeding and researching disease-resistant, heat-tolerant and nutritious varieties, developing state-of-the-art technologies to high-quality vegetable and fruit seeds. For several years now, research has been focused on resistance in a context of increasing global warming," explains Brian Liang, deputy general manager of Known-You Seed Europe B.V.

The main crops covered by the selection are cucurbits and Solanaceae, i.e. watermelons, melons, pumpkins, cherry tomatoes, i.e. all high-yielding crops with excellent sensory qualities and heat resistance.

"Many of the successful products presented in Italy are deep-flavoured watermelons, regardless of whether they are seedless midi or seeded mini ones. Over the past decades, it has been widely recognised that Known-You Seed genetics are suitable for cultivation and promotion on the Italian market," Liang continues.

"Among the recent innovative studies conducted by the research and breeding team, experimental watermelon-apples stand out as the most advanced innovation. They will be convenient and suitable for personal consumption, weighing between 0.8 and 1.5 kg. From an agronomic point of view, the idea is to grow them vertically: we have several ongoing projects in this direction."

"At Fruit Logistica 2025 in Berlin, Known-You Seed presented its new mini 'kabocha' concept, which aims to offer five colours of Delica pumpkins for the dual purpose of decoration and fresh consumption. It was very interesting for pumpkin lovers and a good opportunity to showcase different types of C. Maxima, thanks to years of research," commented Brian Liang. "We specialise in creating new product concepts and adding value to today's vegetables and supply chain. For example, Santa cherry tomatoes are one of our greatest successes in conveying the pure concept of taste pleasure, to change consumption behaviour from vegetables to fruit."
