German BLE week 45

'Uneven prices for small citrus fruits'

Clementines from Spain dominated, with smaller quantities from Italy completing the picture. The first products from Greece appeared in Frankfurt, selling for EUR 17.50 per 9.5 kg crate. Spanish satsumas were the main offering, followed by Italian satsumas in terms of importance. There were also a few Turkish loads. South African Nadorcott, Tango, and Orri mandarins were the main varieties available, with the latter in particular scoring highly with customers in terms of quality. Supplies from Peru and Chile supplemented the market. Interest increased overall: according to the German BLE, the autumn weather and lower temperatures brought a breath of fresh air to marketing. However, prices were uneven: Spanish clementines often became cheaper due to high availability in line with the season. In contrast, South African mandarins, which are currently very cheap in comparison, regularly saw slight price increases due to limited availability.

Apples
Domestic items dominated the product range. Demand was not particularly strong and could be easily met.

Table grapes
Italian deliveries continued to dominate the market. The abundant availability was sufficient to meet demand. Prices often remained at a similar level to the previous week.

Lemons
Spanish Primofiori and Verdelli varieties dominated. Demand was easily met, so prices did not change significantly.

Bananas
Supply and demand were generally well balanced, so traders rarely had to modify their previous demands.

Cauliflower
Domestic supplies dominated but lost importance overall. Supplementary quantities came from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Lettuce
Spanish loads now clearly predominated among iceberg lettuce: their availability had increased noticeably, while the importance of supplementary domestic and Dutch supplies continued to decline.

Cucumbers
Spanish deliveries dominated, with Dutch and Belgian supplies supplementing the market. Formerly predominant domestic loads now only played a supplementary role.

Tomatoes
Although availability was limited, prices did not change significantly as interest had also declined at the same time.

Bell peppers
Spanish products dominated the scene. In some cases, they were of inconsistent quality, so the price range widened in both directions.
