McCain Foods has entered into an agreement to acquire Penobscot McCrum LLC, a North American supplier of frozen potato specialty products. The transaction includes McCrum's potato processing facility in Washburn, Maine, and is subject to standard closing conditions.
Under the agreement, the McCrum farming operation will remain independently owned and will enter into a long-term potato supply arrangement with McCain. Approximately 130 employees at the Washburn facility will become McCain employees. McCrum's CEO and CFO will assist with the transition.

McCain has operated in Maine's potato sector since acquiring its Easton processing facility in 1976. The McCrum plant in Washburn, built in 2020, will expand McCain's processing capacity in the region and operate alongside the Easton facility.
Both companies have longstanding ties to potato growers in the American Northeast. McCain stated that existing grower relationships and supply arrangements are expected to continue under the new structure.
McCain said the acquisition will expand its North American processing footprint and provide additional capacity for potato products. The company noted that integrating the Washburn facility will support modernization efforts, operational changes, and adjustments to logistics and processing efficiency.
Jay McCrum, owner and CEO of Penobscot McCrum, said the acquisition aligns with the company's long association with McCain. He stated that the family business will continue its agricultural operations independently under the new supply agreement.
