Slovenia's domestic production of fruit and vegetables increased significantly in 2024 compared with the previous year, according to newly released data.
Domestic fruit production reached 91,000 tons, an increase of 93% from the previous year's 47,000 tons. Vegetable production also rose, totalling 85,000 tons, up 14% from 74,000 tons in the previous year. Potato production data were included within the vegetable balance, with self-sufficiency improving in this category as well.

Self-sufficiency rates for plant-based produce increased. The self-sufficiency rate for fruit rose by 11 percentage points to 27%, while the rate for potatoes increased by 3 percentage points to 41%. The vegetable self-sufficiency rate also increased by 3 percentage points, reaching 36%. These gains reflect improved conditions in domestic horticultural production during the year.
In terms of availability for consumption, residents of Slovenia in 2024 had access to 143 kg of fruit, 104 kg of vegetables, and 79 kg of potatoes per person. Compared with 2023, the largest increases were seen in fruit (up 13 kg, or 10%) and vegetables (up 4 kg, or 3%). Availability of potatoes remained broadly similar to the previous year.

The data indicate a growing domestic supply and rising levels of self-sufficiency for key horticultural products in Slovenia.
