Russia extends rail freight discounts for Uzbek and Tajik produce

Russian Railways has extended its discount program for transporting fruit and vegetable products from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Russia, according to the company's press service.

Following a board decision, the 50 per cent discount on imported rail shipments of fruit and vegetable products will remain in place through 2026.

A 20.4 per cent discount also remains in effect for shipments in refrigerated containers moving from the suburban Sel'yatino station to the Sergeli and Jizzakh stations via the Kanisay border station, as well as in the reverse direction via Ozinki station.

The discount for shipments using refrigerated rolling stock owned by Uzbekistan Railways (Uzbekiston Temir Yo'llari) and Tajikistan Railways (Rohi Ohani Tojikiston) has been in place since January 1, 2021, and is renewed annually.

According to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, from January to September this year, the country exported more than 1.6 million tons of fruits and vegetables valued at US$1.45 billion, an increase of 39.3 per cent compared to the previous year.

The volume of shipments rose 7.5 per cent year on year, and the share of this product category in Uzbekistan's total exports reached 5.5 per cent.
