Western Fruit Report Grape Cold Storage Summary:

U.S. grape storage increases in October as overall inventories strengthen

According to the latest USDA AMS Cold Storage Report, U.S. grape inventories reached 11,256,202 packages on 31 October 2025, compared to 10,455,102 packages one year earlier. The increase of more than 800,000 packages represents a 7.7 per cent year-on-year rise and reflects broader storage activity across key white and red seedless varieties, even as several named cultivars saw declines.

Autumn King and Other White varieties were the biggest contributors to the overall increase, while Scarlet Royal, Timco, and Allison showed notable reductions.

Autumn Royal and Autumn King
Holdings of Autumn Royal declined to 191,506 packages, down from 216,317 the previous year. Bagged fruit dropped to 154,793, while clamshells slipped to 11,465 from 13,688. By contrast, Autumn King posted a small but steady rise, reaching 2,791,423 packages versus 2,665,459 a year earlier. The largest growth came from plain packs, up to 796,864 from 572,073, while bag and clamshell volumes remained stable.

Allison and Jack's Salute
Allison ended October at 2,564,767 packages, slightly below 2,623,485 last year. Bagged product declined to 1,870,897, down from 1,997,254. Jack's Salute, on the other hand, improved strongly to 451,266 packages from 346,364 in 2024. This was driven by a surge in plain-pack products, which rose sharply to 150,703 from only 793 a year earlier.

Scarlet Royal and Red Globe
Scarlet Royal recorded one of the sharpest declines, dropping from 1,012,040 to 672,415 packages, with reductions across all packaging types. Red Globe showed the opposite trend. Storage climbed to 126,523 packages compared with 77,359 last year, helped by a substantial increase in bagged product, which rose to 112,342 from 70,703.

Sweet Globe, Timco, and Great Green
Sweet Globe/Sorbet stocks slipped from 106,244 to 92,570 packages, largely due to lower bagged volumes. Timco holdings fell sharply from 362,907 to 264,346 packages, reflecting smaller bag and plain-pack totals. In contrast, Great Green more than doubled, jumping from 103,783 to 285,403 packages, driven almost entirely by bagged grapes, which surged to 284,860 from 77,332.

Other categories
The Other White group continued its upward trend, rising to 2,061,365 packages from 1,596,002 a year earlier. Bagged fruit climbed to 971,912, while plain packs increased to 766,819. Other Red also grew significantly, from 1,054,414 to 1,513,310 packages, with bagged grapes nearly doubling to 1,049,816.

By contrast, Other Black varieties declined from 247,413 to 197,091 packages.

Broader outlook
Overall, the data show that while several major named varieties experienced smaller harvest volumes or reduced storage this season, the expansion of mixed red and white categories helped lift the national total.
