Morocco rises to third place in Germany’s avocado import market

Morocco has increased its presence in the German avocado market, more than doubling export volumes during the 2024/25 season, according to EastFruit data.

From November 2024 to August 2025, Moroccan exporters shipped 19,600 metric tons of avocados to Germany, with a total value close to US$80 million. This represents a twofold increase from the previous season and six times more than in 2021/22, setting a new seasonal export record for the country.

Avocados have become one of Morocco's leading fruit export categories, ranking second only to mandarins in total volume. Germany remains one of the top five destinations for Moroccan fruit, accounting for more than 13% of the country's avocado exports during the first ten months of the 2024/25 marketing year.

German demand for avocados continues to expand, driven by both consumption growth and diversification of supply origins. Over the past two seasons, Germany sourced avocados from 26 countries, a number that increased to 30 this season. Of these, 12 countries each supplied more than 1,000 tons to the German market.

Peru remains the primary supplier of avocados to Germany, dominating shipments between May and October, while South Africa competes strongly in the same period. Chile provides the main supply from November to December, while Israel, Colombia, and Morocco primarily cover demand from January through March.

Morocco's export growth has strengthened its position among Germany's top avocado suppliers. During the 2022/23 season, record volumes moved the country into fifth place among exporters to Germany. A reduction in shipments in 2023/24 temporarily lowered Morocco's ranking to eighth, but this season's rebound has already placed it third. With several months remaining in the current campaign, Morocco is likely to maintain this position.

In addition to progress in Germany, Moroccan avocado exports have also reached record levels in other markets, including Switzerland and Canada.
