The Spanish Avocado and Mango Inter-Branch Organization (OIAM) announces the start of the Spanish avocado season with an optimistic outlook. After several years of drought, production is expected to increase by 20% to 30% over last year. This growth is mainly due to the spring rains in Axarquia (Malaga), Spain's main avocado production region.

Additionally, the planted area continues to expand significantly, especially in Cadiz, Huelva, and the Valencia region, confirming the crop's development and Spain's growing role as a European leader in avocado production.
In the initial weeks of the season, varieties like Bacon, Fuerte, Zutano, and Ettinger are being harvested. Meanwhile, the Hass variety, which is the most popular both nationally and internationally, will only reach its peak maturity and quality for sale by mid-November.

For this reason, OIAM is sending a clear message to the sector and distribution: do not harvest or sell Spanish Hass avocados prematurely.
Ensuring quality at the point of sale is crucial to protecting the reputation of Spanish avocados and providing a positive consumer experience.
"Quality is our best letter of introduction. If we harvest the fruit too early, we harm the consumer and the value of our product. Let's defend the prestige of the Spanish avocado together," the organization stressed.
The OIAM will continue to monitor the season's development and keep all agents in the chain informed.

The OIAM unites producers, marketers, and processors to improve competitiveness, sustainability, and the consumption of Spanish avocado and mango, both domestically and in major European markets.
