Brazilian fruit sector supports children’s nutrition project

The Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivative Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas) took part in a social initiative during Children's Week to promote healthy eating among children. The association's members donated fresh fruit to Grupo de Sopa e Assistência: O Consolador, a social project based in Sobradinho, Federal District.

Founded in 2005, the O Consolador project was created in partnership with educational institutions and relies entirely on community collaboration and volunteer work. Funded through private donations, it offers educational and welfare activities for children. Before the pandemic, the program provided classes, support activities, and dental care to more than 100 children.

Although the project was scaled back after the pandemic, it continues its work with limited resources. Coordinator Charles Pena said that additional volunteers and staff would be needed to resume its previous structure and expand its services.

Abrafrutas' executive director, Eduardo Brandão, said the association's members remain committed to community engagement. "With the support of our associates, always sensitive and committed to social causes, we were able to donate fruit and bring joy to these children on this special day. Donating fruit is a way to share the best we produce and reinforce the importance of healthy habits from an early age."

He added that Abrafrutas continues to promote responsible production and sustainability initiatives across the fruit industry, aiming to support both economic and social development within local communities.
