The role of the Queensland Food Farmers' Commissioner is to support farmers in operating within a competitive market and to act as a point of contact on issues affecting the sector. The position also provides advice to help strengthen relationships between farmers and supermarkets, while contributing to broader agricultural policy discussions.
Under the new appointment, the commissioner's responsibilities will expand to include coordination with the Federal Government as part of the National Food Security Strategy. The role will also support the implementation of Queensland's 25-year Primary Producers Prosper 2050 Blueprint.
Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett said Chambers' past involvement in state and national supermarket inquiries demonstrated her ability to represent growers in supply chain pricing discussions.
"I am confident she will provide strong leadership, connection, and advocacy across industry, to government, and for Queensland primary producers," Perrett said. He also thanked Charles Burke, who served as the interim commissioner until earlier this month.
