The Citrus Research and Field Trial (CRAFT) Foundation announced the allocation of $104.5 million by the Florida Legislature for citrus research in the 2025–26 budget cycle. This funding will support ongoing applied research via extensive field trials. New programs are under design by CRAFT, with program details to be released shortly.
Analysis of data from the Existing Tree Therapy program is progressing. Although the industry faced challenges from two hurricanes last year, initial findings are promising. The 2025–26 harvest data, representing the third year post-treatment for various program trees, will be imperative for a comprehensive analysis. The outcomes will be available on a publicly accessible dashboard. CRAFT's analysis will expand to include new tree planting cycles as they mature and data is compiled.
Site verification visits by CRAFT representatives are ongoing, assessing project adherence. "CRAFT is highly encouraged by the vibrant appearance of many of the projects." New citrus varieties, including the 2024-planted Donaldson (Cycle 5), are being evaluated for further monitoring.
CRAFT collaborates with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Fruit and Vegetables for sample collection this summer. These sampling visits aim to gather leaf and soil samples for lab analysis. Findings from these analyses will integrate with existing data and become accessible to participating growers.
