Port of Tauranga Limited (NZX: POT), Zespri, and Tauranga Kiwifruit Logistics (TKL) have entered into a five-year agreement aimed at increasing cargo volumes through the port. The agreement comes as kiwifruit exports are projected to grow by over 2% annually through 2029, reflecting an anticipated rise in Zespri's harvest.

Port of Tauranga Chief Executive Leonard Sampson stated that the partnership is intended to improve coordination during peak export periods and manage logistical challenges. Zespri's Head of New Zealand Supply, Lorry Leydon, said the agreement is part of broader efforts to meet export growth targets and maintain product quality across international markets.
TKL currently operates a coolstore facility at the Mount Maunganui wharves and is responsible for loading both bulk and containerised kiwifruit onto refrigerated vessels. In the previous export season, more than 190 million trays of New Zealand-grown kiwifruit were shipped through Port of Tauranga, with approximately half moved via dedicated charter ships and the remainder in containers. The kiwifruit export season typically spans from March to October.
The Port of Tauranga also holds cargo volume agreements with other major exporters, including Kotahi and Oji Fibre Solutions.
