The supply of Australian kiwis has been plentiful this season, with volumes up on last year. "The quality this season has been great," said Susan Lewis at Murray Bros. "We are seeing a lot more green kiwifruit on the Australian market than the gold varieties."
Murray Bros supplies Zespri Gold kiwifruit, as well a number of other brands of green fruit.
"The Australian kiwifruit supply is supplemented by fruit from New Zealand, this year there was more fruit available. There was more green kiwifruit on the market earlier this year, the Australian and New Zealand seasons also overlapped."
Since 2020 there has been no quarantine pre-clearance in New Zealand, so all kiwifruit which comes into Australia must go through the quarantine clearance process. Murray Bros hosts the quarantine inspection on site, where the inspectors determine further quarantine processes, or they pass the consignment.
In January 2020, Murray Bros' two fumigation rooms became fully operational. The rooms are on one site within the Brisbane Markets, alongside the company's 12 ripening rooms and 5000 m2 cold storage space.
