Pakistani mangoes arrive in the UAE

The first shipments of Pakistani mangoes have reached the UAE, marking the start of the mango season. The supply of these mangoes is deemed satisfactory, despite a lower yield in Pakistan, attributed to climate change effects. Due to inflation within Pakistan and increased freight charges, mango prices have seen a slight rise.

Exports from Pakistan were permitted starting May 20, 2024, with the first vessel arriving on May 23, carrying about 192 containers of the Sindhri variety, totaling approximately 4,600 tonnes. The Sindhri and Chanusa varieties, known for their high pulp content and sweet taste, are among the most sought after. This year, the cost of shipping has risen, leading to a slight increase in mango prices.

Climate change has been identified as a factor reducing mango yield in Pakistan, potentially affecting the quantity available for export. Despite these challenges, exports to the UAE have started strong, with an emphasis on early shipments to meet initial demand. Quality assurance remains high, with no adverse weather conditions reported that could affect the mango crop. The impact of climate change on production levels is noted, with some varieties being exported in quantities that may not be available domestically.
