"La Quercia" is a nursery specializing in kiwifruit

"Kiwifruits still bring us a lot of satisfaction as a crop"

With over 200 thousand kiwifruit plants produced every year, "La Quercia" is among those medium-small nurseries focusing on precise and high-quality production. "We do not want to reach huge numbers because we want to carefully monitor all phases. We are a small business and stand out thanks to the uniformity, health, well-formed root system and harmonious development of our plants, as fruits that come from a well-formed nursery give great satisfaction to producers," explains owner Denis Magalotti.

Denis Magalotti.

La Quercia mostly works on the domestic market, but also registers demand from France, Portugal and Spain. Production is carried out by both POs and clubs when it comes to protected varieties, with free sales in case of e.g. the Hayward varieties. "Large quantities are often requested from abroad, there are companies that invest in dozens or even hundreds of hectares, and it is essential to supply them with uniform plants."

Plants can be supplied either as plugs or in vases. Grafting is a very delicate phase, in fact Magalotti works with professionals that guarantee the best results with a negligible percentage of failures.

Magalotti is available for both purchases and orders, and will attend Macfrut in hall A1 - stand 171.

La Quercia covers 10 hectares in total, 6 of which destined to nurseries so that rotation is possible. "Our entire nursery is placed in greenhouses, so the material is protected from the rain and hail throughout all phases, which helps prevent diseases."
