(ICTSI), from assuming control of a key terminal in Durban, South Africa's premier container facility. The dispute arises over the management of Durban Container Terminal (DCT) Pier 2, a role ICTSI was set to inherit from Transnet, the state-operated entity, as of this month. APM Terminals contends that its bid for the 25-year tender was superior, challenging the award process.
Details regarding the lawsuit filed by the Maersk-affiliated company remain undisclosed. This legal challenge marks a significant moment in South Africa's move towards port privatization, a process initiated last July when ICTSI was announced as the preferred bidder in a joint venture aimed at developing and enhancing the Durban terminal. This development is expected to increase the terminal's capacity from 2 million TEU to 2.8 million TEU annually.
