In February 2024, the Port of New York and New Jersey reported a comprehensive growth in its operational metrics. The total volume reached 632,455 TEUs, a 10.7% increase from February 2023, with year-to-date figures at 1,299,801 TEUs.
Imports saw a 15.2% rise to 332,241 TEUs for the month, while the cumulative imports for January and February were up by 10.2%. Exports in February slightly increased by 3% to 101,636 TEUs, despite a 2.2% decrease in the year-to-date export volume. Export empties for February grew by 7.3%, with a 6% increase observed in the year-to-date figures. The port also experienced a 55.8% surge in import empties for the first two months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Rail volume in February showed a notable 17.2% increase, with year-to-date growth recorded at 7.1%. These metrics underscore the port's significant role in the United States' logistics and transportation sector, marking it as the second busiest February on record.
