Jackals use urine to protect their favorite fruit from thieves

Black-backed jackals, according to The New Scientist, native to eastern and southern Africa, urinate on sweet melons in the Namib desert to deter fruit theft. Despite being carnivores, they favor the melon-like fruits of the !nara plant and aid in seed dispersal. This behavior was observed by researchers Ryan Truscott and Saima Shikesho.
