In Western Australia, the passage of ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln through the Gascoyne region, particularly affecting Carnarvon north of Perth, has been met with mixed reactions. The cyclone, which transitioned over the coast on Saturday night, delivered 78 millimetres of rain and wind gusts peaking at 76 kilometres per hour.
While the rainfall was welcomed by some as a drought-ending event, it spelled disaster for local fruit growers like Su Tran. Tran, who had recently invested approximately $30,000 in preparing his land for tomato, capsicum, and cucumber seedings, now faces the grim task of discarding his efforts due to the storm's impact.
Additionally, the adverse weather conditions, including recent extreme heat, have inflicted around $40,000 worth of damage to his watermelon crops. Despite the setbacks, Tran remains committed to his agricultural pursuits, driven by his family's roots in the community. The weather system is anticipated to continue its journey southeast across the Gascoyne and into the Central West district.
