Sysco invests in super depot to serve South East England

Sysco, a big player in global foodservice distribution, hopes to revolutionize the industry in London and the South East with a $100m investment in its largest European depot. This 475,000sq ft facility, located in Hemel Hempstead, marks a significant milestone as the first in Great Britain to harness Sysco's advanced technology and software, mirroring its US operations. This strategic expansion not only enhances Sysco's service capacity but also aligns with its growth aspirations in the region.

The depot's design facilitates an expanded product range, including fresh, frozen, and ambient items, enabling quicker fulfillment of customer needs. Over the next 18 months, the site, formerly occupied by Amazon, will undergo extensive modifications to accommodate foodservice requirements, including the addition of specialized storage areas and sustainability enhancements.

Paul Nieduszynski, CEO of Sysco GB, highlighted the depot's groundbreaking potential: "The new Sysco London depot is a next generation site, unlike anything we've seen before...it takes foodservice wholesale in Britain to an entirely new level." He emphasized the depot's role in improving responsiveness and product availability on the outskirts of Greater London. The project is expected to generate 850 jobs over the next decade, with operations commencing in early 2026.
