Melon exports in Rio Grande Do Norte grow 10% in six months

The export season for melons in Rio Grande do Norte, running from August 2023 to January of the current year, has witnessed a notable increase, with a 10% rise in value over the previous cycle, as reported by the International Business Center of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (CIN-FIERN). Watermelon exports have particularly flourished, achieving $43 million and 69,000 tons, an 8.9% growth in value year-over-year.

However, the export figures for January paint a contrasting picture. Despite reaching a total of $70.8 million, there was a 6.8% decline compared to January 2023, and a more significant 17% fall from December of the same year. Key exports during this period included fuel oils, which saw an 11.6% decrease, melons at an 18.7% drop, watermelons down by 23%, and cotton fabrics, which decreased by 18%, with sugar exports not recorded in January 2023.
