Iranian date exports reach an impressive $270 million

In the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, 2023, Iranian farmers have produced an impressive 1.3 million tons of dates. Out of this, 350,000 tons, valued at $270 million, have been exported, according to Mohsen Rashid Farokhi, the head of National Date Association of Iran. This puts Iran as the world's third-largest producer of dates, as reported by IRNA.

Egypt leads the pack in date production with 1.8 million tons annually, followed by Saudi Arabia and Iran. Ruhollah Latifi, spokesperson for the International Relations and Trade Development Committee of Iran's House of Industry, Mining and Trade, revealed that the value of Iran’s agricultural and foodstuff exports rose by 22 percent in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year.

Iranian producers managed to export over 6.775 million tons of agricultural and food products, worth more than $4.873 billion, in the said period. This marked an 8.4 percent increase in terms of weight. The top five food and agricultural products exported were dairy products, pistachios, tomatoes, apples, and fishery products.
