Kyrgyz melons appeared on Kashgar markets in China

A truck loaded with Kyrgyz melons arrived in China on February 1st through the Irkeshtam port. Swiftly, the melons made their way to the fruit markets of Kashgar in Xinjiang.

This marks the first instance of agricultural produce being imported to Kashgar since the opening of the Kashgar section of the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone, signifying significant progress in the region's fruit market development.

The imported batch from Kyrgyzstan weighed 20 tons, valued at 100,000 yuan (12,461 euros). Transported in a temperature-controlled vehicle, the melons were loaded in Osh and reached the Irkeshtam border crossing within a day.

According to the company's deputy director, Ankarzhan Tusun, market research revealed high demand for melons during winter in Kashgar, prompting the decision to import Kyrgyz organic melons.

Tusun emphasised that melon imports facilitate fruit trade flow from Osh, Kyrgyzstan to Kashgar, China, enhancing trade and economic ties between the two nations. The company plans to expand fruit imports from Kyrgyzstan to meet the demand of Kashgar consumers.
