Estonia: January in grocery stores
Estonian grocery store prices grew fast last year, and while the Estonian Institute of Economic Research's survey shows no sharp increases, January figures show that prices are still gradually rising. Prices will also be affected by this year's higher VAT rate. Vegetables show both large increases and smaller decreases. Imported tomatoes and cucumbers rose the most, by 37% and 29% respectively over the year. The price of tuber onions also rose by more than a quarter over the year.

Australia's Metcash acquires three businesses for $363mln
Reuters reported: "Australian supermarket wholesaler Metcash said it entered deals to acquire three businesses for a total enterprise value of A$558.5 ($363.47mln) for furthering diversification and growth. The deal includes the acquisition of private food services provider Superior Food Group for A$412.3mln. Metcash will also buy construction firm Bianco Construction Supplies and Frame & Truss operator Alpine Truss for A$82.2mln and A$64mln, respectively, it said in a statement".
