Japan's Ocean Network Express launches world's first dual-temperature refrigerated container

Ocean Network Express (ONE), in partnership with Pan Pacific International Holdings (PPIH) and NAX Japan, has unveiled the world's first dual-temperature refrigerated container with controlled atmosphere functionality. This innovation will facilitate marine transportation of various perishable goods and fruits from Japan to Don Quijote, PPIH's overseas stores, marking a global first.

The container features a foldable partition, creating two temperature zones. One compartment supports both chilled and frozen temperatures, ranging from -30°C to +30°C, akin to a standard refrigerated container. The other compartment uses a thermal fan to maintain temperatures between -5°C and +30°C. The partition's position can be adjusted according to customer needs, and it can be stored in the ceiling when not in use, converting it into a standard refrigerated container.

PPIH runs 43 stores across six Asian countries, where maintaining freshness during ocean transportation has been a challenge. This innovation aims to enhance container loading efficiency and reduce transportation costs, particularly for countries with fewer stores like Thailand and Malaysia.

The manufacturing of this dual-temperature refrigerated container and its trial shipments are supported by a subsidy project by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
