Almond blossoms flourish early in Mula, despite mid-winter heatwave

The town of Mula in northwest Murcia has celebrated the early blossoming of almond trees. Despite a mid-winter heatwave posing a threat to crop growth, Mula's almond trees have bloomed perfectly, attracting numerous visitors to the annual spectacle. Mula's mayor, Juan Jest. Is Moreno Garcia, noted that Mula is the first European area to witness almond blossoms.

The Mula Flor flower festival is set for the weekend of February 3 and 4, with nearly two months of activities planned, including hiking, workshops, exhibitions, and guided tours. Mula, having the most land dedicated to almond cultivation in Spain, is preparing to welcome tourists to 'enjoy unparalleled landscapes that dress up to welcome the almond in a spectacle of incomparable beauty'.

The Region of Murcia, with an impressive 74,274 hectares of almond trees, ranks as the fourth largest producer in Spain. Lorca, Mula and Jumilla towns are particularly recognized for their almond cultivation, contributing to 63.5% of the total organic almond production. However, the ongoing drought and unseasonable heat have affected many crops, leading to early fruit and vegetable harvests and flowering of some trees.
