Italian company Ser.mac invests in artificial intelligence

New machines for grading walnuts and dates

A new method of fruit and vegetable processing that involves the use of high-performance technological tools to increase production efficiency and at the same time reduce costs. Italy's Ser.mac firmly believes in Agriculture 4.0. In recent years, Ser.mac has invested heavily in R&D, developing increasingly powerful external and internal quality control systems thanks to artificial intelligence," explains Enrico Prosapio, sales director of the Cesena-based company. Ser.mac was one of the first companies to adopt this technology and today we can say that we are very satisfied with the results obtained."

Ser.mac technologies improve each step of the industrial process to ensure a high-quality result.

Dates grading machinery

Partnering with Ser.mac means a dynamic business relationship capable of constantly developing new solutions. "We are never at a standstill," continues Enrico Prosapio. "In fact, after developing systems that can detect external and internal defects on kiwis, apples, citrus, blueberries, cherries, pears and nectarines, and even flat peaches, we will be bringing other new products to Berlin this year and we invite you to our stand to find out more."

At Fruit Logistica, visitors will be able to meet the team and learn about two recent additions to the Cesena-based company's portfolio: date and walnut grading machines.

Date grading machine
Ser.mac has developed a solution to ensure the correct sizing of dates, whose defects are extremely difficult to detect due to their organoleptic characteristics.

This is Ghibli, a sizing machine for the processing of different types of dates, including the very delicate Medjool. This machine uses artificial intelligence and an innovative algorithm to classify the defects related to the color, the weight, the diameter and the internal and external quality of the dates.

Walnut grading machine

Empty and rotten nuts no longer stand a chance
Another novelty from Ser.mac is the sizing machine for walnuts, a fruit that hides its external and internal imperfections very well due to its irregular and very tough shell.

This new solution is equipped with a roller carriage that rotates the fruit 360 degrees, showing every detail to cameras equipped with artificial intelligence. It is also equipped with roller cups that quantify the weight and diameter of the fruit. Thanks to this new technology, rotten or hollow nuts are immediately discarded, so that only the highest quality products are obtained for distribution.

It's a new machine, but it's already yielding great results, so much so that Ser.mac's sales manager concludes: "One machine has already been sold and the customer has been impressed by the high level of precision achieved in sorting low quality nuts."

Ser.mac will be exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Hall 4.1, Stand A-32.
