Ukrainian fruit, berry, and nut exports faced decline in 2023

The EU makes up around 80% of Ukraine's horticultural exports

In 2023, Ukraine experienced an 18% decrease in revenue from the export of fruits, berries, and nuts, amounting to $257 million. The export structure highlighted a predominant decline in frozen berries and fruits at $132 million (-31%) and shelled and unshelled walnuts at $77 million (-4%). An increase in berry exports reached $18 million (+31%).

The global trend of decreasing prices affected Ukrainian production, resulting in a drop in walnut and frozen fruit prices.

In terms of volume, there was growth in the export of frozen fruits by 3% (87 thousand tons), walnuts by 21% (31 thousand tons), and berry crops by 19% (5 thousand tons). However, apple and pear exports saw a reduction of 10% (42 thousand tons) in overseas sales.

The European Union remains a critically important market, accounting for approximately 80% of Ukraine's horticultural product purchases.
