Industrial dispute at Australia's busiest port threatens NSW economy

The NSW Opposition urges the Minns Labor Government to support NSW businesses and regions amidst the ongoing industrial dispute at the state's busiest port, which is inflicting millions of dollars of damage to the NSW economy.

Acting Opposition Leader Natalie Ward insists that Chris Minns should represent the thousands of NSW residents affected by the Maritime Union of Australia's industrial action and request the Albanese Labor Government's immediate intervention.

Shadow Minister for Regional NSW Dugald Saunders states that the conflict between DP World and the Maritime Union is causing over $25 million of weekly damage in NSW and negatively affecting regional communities.

The dispute is severely impacting primary producers who rely on the smooth import and export of goods. With a backlog of approximately 48,000 shipping containers nationwide, delays on essential items are ranging from two to eight weeks and expected to worsen.

Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations Damien Tudehope warns that Chris Minns and the federal Labor Government are running out of time to prevent the escalating industrial action from impacting everyday consumers through higher prices.

Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway expresses concern over the significant impact on freight and the serious repercussions for regional businesses.

Managing Director of Fletcher International Exports, Roger Fletcher, reveals that the dispute has already caused four months of damage to his business and is tarnishing Australia's reputation.
