Peruvian avocado exports will reach $1 billion this year

According to data from Inform@ccion, from January 1 to August 28, 2023, Peruvian avocado exports increased by 8.82%, totaling 572,580,320 kilos.

The president of the consultancy, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, said that "the 2023 campaign peaked between May and June. In addition, monthly exports were higher compared to the same months in 2022, except in August, when a decrease was observed. "In addition, we expect that there will be a lot of late avocados, especially in Arequipa," he added.

In the period analyzed, exports not only increased in volume but also in value thanks to the better prices on the international market. As a result, sales are well on track to reach $1 billion, a figure already recorded in 2021.

Exports by region
The president of Inform@ccion said that avocado exports from La Libertad, the main producing region, grew by 2.41%, to 182,997,658 kilos. Exports from Lambayeque to date have increased by 28.52%, totaling 141,470,486 kilos. In turn, shipments from Lima between January 1 and August 28 increased by 15.37%, to 143,444,250 kilos.

ICA shipped 78,981,096 kilos of avocado, recording a 4.63% contraction; shipments from Ancash fell by 11.21% to 18,429,892 kilos; and finally, exports from Arequipa increased by 25.61%, to 4,950,473 kilos.

According to Fernando Cillóniz, Peruvian avocado exports will reach 650,000 tons by the end of this year. That is 11% more than the 584,000 tons shipped in 2022.
