The Trans-Australian railway will reopen today. The 300-km track was damaged in a severe flood on January 21, but according to the Australian Rail Track Corporation, recovery efforts had gone smoothly.
The flood meant freight was blocked from getting into WA via rail from South Australia and the Northern Territory. An ARTC spokesperson said crews had been working “around the clock to fixed damaged locations” and “thanks our crews, contractors, local mines in the region and suppliers whom have all worked together to repair the damage.”
The flood further inflamed the existent supply chain woes that had left supermarket shelves bare over the festive period. Farmers, factory staff, and delivery drivers were among those side-lined by COVID-19 during the eastern state’s aggressive Omicron wave.
