In collaboration with breeding companies Enza, Bayer CropScience, Seminis and Sakata, and importer HillFresh, Wageningen UR Horticulture has developed a model to quickly predict the taste level of Galia melons. The model predicts the taste of Galia melons based on a few measured parameters.
Wageningen UR Horticulture has previously developed taste models for tomatoes and bell peppers. These unique models allow for quicker and more consistent measurements of flavor levels. The measurements are used in breeding programs and in the development of cultivation recipes. In addition, they simplify communication between supply chain partners, and they make accurate work in flavor improvement possible in the supply chain, which creates added value and allows customers to be better served.
Interested parties can report conducting flavor measurements of Galia melons to 'Smaakteam Bleiswijk' via [email protected]. Questions regarding model development of other products may also be presented to the team.
