US: Amazon Fresh closing 4 stores in Southern California
Amazon is planning to close four Amazon Fresh stores in Southern California in the coming months, the company confirmed. The closures follow four other recent Amazon Fresh closures in markets around the country and the news that the company plans to close 14 of its Amazon Fresh locations in the U.K. and convert five others to the Whole Foods Market banner.

Spain: Eroski reports growth in sales and profit in first half
Spanish retailer Eroski has reported growth in gross sales and net profit in the first half of its financial year to 31 July 2025. Gross sales reached €2.95bln, reflecting a 2.9% increase compared to the previous year, and a net profit of €55.5mln, up 10.6% year-on-year, the retailer added. The company's EBITDA increased to €157.5mln - 1.8% higher than the same period last year.

Tesco motors towards 1,000th electric home delivery van milestone
Tesco reported: "Tesco has strengthened its position as the leading supermarket when it comes to the roll-out of electric home delivery vans by unveiling its 1,000th electric van. The van will go into service at the supermarket's Cardiff Extra store, making it the third store in Wales to have a fully electric fleet. The store runs 20 home delivery vans, making close to 5,000 deliveries each week".

Discount chain to launch in Slovakia
Discount retailer Mere will open its first Slovak branch in Banská Bystrica. The store, on Námestie Ľudovíta Štúra, already carries the chain's branding, though no opening date has been announced. Operations will be run by Chain Stores SK, a Bratislava company founded 18 months ago and owned by Hung Trade DOO in Belgrade, Interez reports.
